Check out Chesapeake Light Craft (CLC) if you are interested in wooden boats. I recently visited CLC’s show room and headquarters in Annapolis, MD. Beautiful kayaks, canoes, boats, and paddle boards lined the walls and were suspended from the ceilings.
Why would you want a plain fiberglass boat when you can have a unique, wooden boat – a boat that is also a piece of art! CLC makes wooden boat kits – kits are available for beginners to expert cabinet-workers. They have a stitch and glue kayak kit, sounds like something even I could build. They also sell boating supplies and gear. Plus, experts are available to answer any questions.
Their woodworking shops are used for prototype development. Boat building experts led “build-you-own-boat classes” in their woodworking shops or at various locations.
I found the sectional option or “nesting version” available on the Shearwater Sport and Eastport Pram interesting. The boat comes apart for easy storing, hauling or display. Then, can be put back together for on the water fun.
CLC’s website is packed with hundreds of boat designs and kits. Plus, the website has boat building information, videos, tips and a “Builders Forum”. http://www.clcboats.com/
